GEMS Energy Efficiency Certification Service

1. Certification Introduction

Effective October 1, 2012, Australia and New Zealand will implement the GEMS certification for energy efficiency, replacing the previous MEPS certification for energy efficiency in Australia. GEMS certification is mandatory, and products under regulation must obtain GEMS certification to be sold in the market. The applicant must be a locally registered company in Australia. Australia's energy efficiency requirements include energy efficiency labeling and the minimum energy performance standards (GEMS).

2. Certification Scope

Refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, household air conditioners (single-phase), televisions. Three-phase air conditioners (window units), electric water heaters, three-phase motors, fluorescent lamp ballasts, fluorescent lamps, distribution transformers, commercial refrigerators, televisions, distribution transformers, incandescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps (energy-saving lamps), external power supplies, chillers for commercial buildings, air conditioners with closed controls, transformers for low-voltage lamps, and electronic transformers.

3. Application Process

(1) Determine whether the product falls under GEMS regulation

(2) Conduct product testing

(3) Online GEMS registration (upload test reports)

(4) GEMS review and approval, issuance of an electronic certificate

4. Certification Documents

(1) Application form and letter of authorization;

(2) Product Label (must include the corresponding certification mark);

(3) Product photos are usually required for countries that require factory inspections, but the CIG 023 factory inspection report is generally acceptable;
